Hello graphic makers!! You’re probably aware that there is a huge problem on tumblr with whitewashing. Or maybe you’re not. As a predominantly disney-based blogger, the whitewashing I personally see are from the disney fandom, so I’m going to use screencaps from those movies to show you several quick techniques so you’ll see just how easy it is to have your pretty bright and pastel colour palettes and not whitewash characters of colour.
i never stop talking about some of these so i might as well banish them to a single post! you might know about a lot of them already, but feel free to look anyway
freeware can be a great opportunity to get a feel for something and learn a new skill. and in some cases, the free versions are almost as powerful, so you might find that you saved a lot of money but made work that was just about equal to what you might have done with paid software!
I recently found the need to use an Instagram template on Photoshop and when I couldn’t find one that was exactly as I wanted it I decided to make my own. This is based on the current 2016 version and the layout is made exactly the same as it appears on desktop. Fonts and colours are matched to a near exact – the one used here is Arial Nova in varying shades of grey (the font should already be installed on your computer if you use Windows 10, if not try Arial on a 96% width for a good dupe). I’ve organised the PSD file into folders to make it less confusing but a working knowledge of clipping masks will be needed to make this work. The follow button is also included in its own layer so you can move it around as required depending on username length. I’ll try to answer any questions you have about how to use it if you need them but it’s fairly simple! Please reblog/like and credit (where appropriate) if used or downloaded. An example graphic using this PSD can be seen here.
But what if half your ocs are softys and not made for fighting?

Hey btw if you don’t know how to program, you should check out [novelty], which is a free Visual Novel creation software. Absolutely no programming required, and it’s super easy to use, I played with it some when I was a teen but the only reason I didn’t do much with it is cuz I made my story complicated and had like 5000 different branching routes that kept spawning new routes and made myself confused LMAO
But yeah, it’s a WYSIWYG with a really straight-forward GUI, if I remember correctly.
It even comes with some free backgrounds and characters and stuff, and this is what it looks like:
Did I mention it’s super duper free? It hasn’t been updated since 2010, but it has basically all you’d need to make a simple visual novel.
Just make sure your DirectX runtime is updated, cuz it can act buggy if it’s outdated, but this program is so old that I doubt it’d even be an issue lol
A tip for blending when painting digitally: use a transition color! I quickly made this when my brother asked for art advice while I was working on a painting for my best friend. (I was watching a lot of makeup videos to pick out her gifts).
